About the role

Are you passionate about educational measurement and assessment? Join the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) as a Statistician and play a crucial role in shaping the future of education in NSW. In this role, you will undertake high-level research in educational measurement. You will also support the development and application of assessment policies and provide expert advice to NESA and its committees. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong background in statistics or psychometrics to contribute to the quality of teaching and student learning across NSW schools. You'll have the chance to work on diverse and complex projects, represent NESA at conferences and drive improvements in assessment systems.

On a day-to-day basis you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting high-level research and statistical analysis to address complex issues and proposals.
  • Preparing research papers and representing NESA at various professional forums.
  • Providing technical advice and support to NESA officers and committees on issues related to educational measurement and assessment.
  • Writing programs in R or Python to automate statistical analyses and processing tasks.
  • Reviewing and evaluating current processes and recommending improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Completion or near completion of a degree in statistics, psychometrics, educational measurement, quantitative social science or a related field.
  • Proven experience with statistical applications such as R or Python to automate routine statistical analyses, or psychometric applications such as RUMM2030.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing research papers and presenting findings in group settings.
  • Strong research skills with the ability to conduct high-level statistical analysis.
  • Experience managing multiple complex research projects and providing technical advice on educational measurement and assessment issues.
  • Experience with LaTeX typesetting or R Markdown.
