Border Medical Oncology Research Unit has been in operation since 1998. Our aim is to improve outcomes for regional cancer patients and impact on the future direction of cancer treatments. We aim to achieve this through providing optimal access to cancer clinical trials and the provision of quality patient care to the region. 

Border Medical Oncology Research Unit is part of the Regional Trials Network - Victoria (RTN-Vic). RTN-Vic is a strategic partnership of eight regional cancer clinical trials units and Cancer Trials Australia. The Victorian Cancer Agency co-funded with Cancer Council Victoria, the Cancer Trials Management Scheme supported the establishment of the Regional Trials Network in 2017. It has achieved a substantial increase in the number of regional patients with cancer being recruited to clinical trials. In 2021 the Network was awarded a further $2.5m over 2.5 years by the Victorian Government through the Victorian Cancer Agency and $18.5 million over 5 years from the Medical Research Future Fund to expand and improve outcomes in cancer patients across regional Victoria.

The position is based in Albury NSW which provides an envious lifestyle in one of the most beautiful regions of Australia, and it is one of the fastest growing cities in Australia. An exciting opportunity exists for a Clinical Research Nurse to join our dynamic clinical trials team providing the highest standard of care to all patients involved in clinical trials. This position has responsibility for the delivery of direct and indirect care and associated data collection for concurrent clinical research studies. Registered Nurse - Division 1 with a post-basic oncology / haematology course or other relevant qualification / experience would be an advantage.

Experience in Research, Data Management and/or Haematology and/or Oncology is highly desirable. 

On the job training will be undertaken with experienced staff. Our organisation has a commitment to ongoing professional development.

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Essential

  • Current (AHPRA) Registered Nurse (Division 1) with a minimum of 3 years post graduate nursing demonstrating the appropriate competencies and skills for the job and clinical setting.
  • Close attention to detail coupled with checking work for accuracy and an ability to meet deadlines, prioritise workflow and effectively manage time. 
  • Well developed computer skills, especially Microsoft Word, Outlook & Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including superior phone etiquette.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both within a team environment and autonomously and to appropriately exercise initiative within the scope of the position. 
  • Effective listening and interpersonal skills. Ability to accurately interpret and follow instructions.
  • An understanding of record keeping, filing and privacy principles and awareness of the Australian regulations and ICH-Good Clinical Practice guidelines. 
  • Transferable skills to undertake the duties of the role and a willingness to learn and contribute to the research team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education/continuous professional development as evidenced by Continuing Professional Development (CPD) portfolio. 

Desirable

  • Clinical Trial or Human Research Ethics and/or Oncology/Haematology experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of a range of research methodologies and their application in empirical research.
  • Experience with databases and data entry.
