Research Lead - Queensland Centre of Excellence in Autism and Disability
Mater Research are looking for a Research Lead to join the Queensland Centre of Excellence in Autism and Intellectual Disability Health team! This permanent, full-time role will be based at our South Brisbane campus.

What you’ll be doing
You will oversee the research projects and provide leadership and management to meet deliverables at QCEAIDH. You will also:
- Provide strategic research and policy direction leadership in intellectual and developmental disability health at a state, national and international level in consultation with the Director.
- Apply co-design principles and ways of working to ensure meaningful input from people with intellectual and developmental disability.
- Develop and lead a body of independent research within the health and disability field to produce translational research outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with clinicians, consumers, and carers, and other stakeholders to progress and contribute the research portfolio of QCEAIDH.
- Contribute to a positive research workplace culture promoting the responsible conduct of research and a collaborative multi-disciplinary approach to driving innovation.
- Contribute to the effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students
- Responsibility for ethics and governance application processes.
- Lead the collection of qualitative and quantitative data, data analysis and interpretation.
- Lead high quality research outputs including journal articles, lay summarises, and oral presentations to disseminate findings and further the field.
- Attend relevant training programs and mandatory educational programs, workshops, conference and promotional functions.
About you
You will have a completed a PhD in a field related to Intellectual Disability, Autism or related field and meet the below criteria:
- Demonstrated intellectual independence through leading projects from conceptualisation to output delivery including managing collaborations.
- Advanced understanding of intellectual and developmental disability health.
- Advanced understanding of the broad policy context that impacts the health and well being of people with intellectual and developmental disability.
- Demonstrated ability to design and conduct high quality translational research with people with intellectual disability, autism or psychosocial disability.
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills necessary for negotiating and liaising effectively with a diverse range of staff, consumers, and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, analyse and solve problems to provide accurate and appropriate outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to produce high quality written material in different styles and formats appropriate to the audience.
- Highly proficient computer literacy with excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications.
- An established national profile in Intellectual and Developmental Disability health research, with an internationally developing profile, and a record of publications and presenting at conferences.
- A strong record of successfully seeking, obtaining, and managing external research funding.
- Experience leading sector response to government enquiries.
- Demonstrated capacity to develop and supervise research students in the specialised area of intellectual and developmental disability.
- Experience building, managing and developing a team of staff and students.
