ABOUT THE ROLE
Are you a passionate and experienced Health and Safety professional ready to make a real difference? Wodonga TAFE is looking for a dynamic Health and Safety Advisor to lead the charge in shaping a safe, healthy, and thriving environment for our staff, students, and visitors.
In this pivotal role, you’ll take ownership of driving health, safety, and wellbeing initiatives across the Institute. You’ll be at the forefront of managing and applying health and safety policies, guiding staff and leadership teams, and fostering a culture of safety that is embedded into everything we do. With your expertise, you’ll ensure that we not only meet but exceed compliance requirements, creating a safe and supportive environment for all.
As a trusted advisor, you’ll lead investigations, manage WorkCover claims, and champion return-to-work programs—all while providing essential training to ensure that everyone at Wodonga TAFE understands and prioritises safety. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the strategic goals of the Institute, driving positive change while supporting our commitment to the wellbeing of our community.
Selected Duties:
- Lead and Manage Health and Safety Practices: Identify and address health and safety risks, design and implement interventions, and enhance service delivery across Wodonga TAFE.
- Provide WHS Advice and Support: Offer expert advice and coaching to staff and managers to ensure health and safety is embedded throughout the organisation.
- Collaborate Strategically: Work closely with leadership teams to develop and execute tailored health and safety programs that align with Wodonga TAFE’s strategic goals.
- Lead Investigations and Recommendations: Conduct thorough investigations into WHS issues, ensuring compliance with legislation and internal policies, and implementing corrective actions to improve safety.
- WorkCover Claims Management: Oversee WorkCover claims and return-to-work (RTW) programs, offering support to injured staff and managers.
- Safety Systems Management: Maintain and enhance the Institute’s Chemical, Incident, Emergency Response, and Hazard Management systems, ensuring audits lead to effective risk control measures.
ABOUT YOU
Skills & Experience
- A Degree or relevant post-graduate qualification in Health & Safety and experience within the profession; or a lesser qualification with substantial experience and expertise in the health and safety and return-to-work fields; or an equivalent combination of experience and education/training.
- VIC RTW Co-ordinator Certificate (or willingness to undertake).
- Proven experience leading investigations using frameworks such as ICAM or similar.
- Must be an Australian Citizen to obtain and maintain a Defence Baseline Security Clearance.
- Must be able to undertake a pre-employment medical.
