 Education Officer- Maternity Leave Cover (12 Months)


The Education Officer plays a vital role in effectively delivering RSPCA NSW education, the objectives of which are to actively promote a culture that values and protects animals, develop empathy and to communicate the role of RSPCA NSW.
  
The role focuses on building relationships within the schools and community sector, delivery of RSPCA NSW education programs to these groups at our Education Centre or externally, promoting our on-line education resource AWARE (Animal Wellbeing: Awareness, Responsibility and Education) and training and supporting our Education and Community Speaker volunteers.

Maternity leave cover contract of 12 months.

  • Delivery of RSPCA NSW Education programs face to face lessons for a range of learners from kindergarten to Yr12 onsite at the Yagoona Education Centre.
  • Deliver RSPCA education externally to targeted schools and groups, primarily within communities that have a targeted Community and Animals Wellbeing Scheme + (CAWS+) or Indigenous Communities program.
  • Undertake constant monitoring and evaluation of the impact of RSPCA NSW Education content and assist in the refinement and development of the content to meet RSPCA educational objectives.
  • Developing and supporting RSPCA Education and Community Speaker volunteers, ensuring volunteers are fully trained, resourced and utilised to deliver RSPCA Education and community talks.
  • Perform various administrative and reporting tasks to contribute to the effective operation of the Education Unit consistent with the RSPCA NSW policies and procedures, including professionally responding, and referring inquiries and information regarding educational opportunities at RSPCA NSW.
  • Promote and facilitate the promotion of on-line RSPCA education resource AWARE to the general population of learners and teachers.
  • Work with the Outreach team to deliver Outreach programs such as Healthy Pet Days.
  • Work within the Community department to further the objectives of the department.
  • Maintain high standards and best practice within an educational context.
  • Increase the RSPCA NSW profile in the school community, government sector and general community to promote RSPCA NSW Education programs.
  • Strengthening the RSPCA brand through promotional and media opportunities.
  • Create new education resources where necessary

Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in Education or experience in animal education
  • A current Working with Children Check (WWCC) is an essential requirement for this role.
  • Class-C driver's license

Experience

  • Experience presenting to various groups and various ages around matters relevant to those groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak in a public forum.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Animal Welfare Issues in accordance with RSPCA policies and positions.
  • Capacity to perform professionally, under pressure, with thorough attention to detail.
  • A passion for new programs and engaging with the community

About You

  • Strong presentation skills for diverse age ranges of learners: pre K, primary, high school and adults.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and experience working to and achieving deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively.
  • Familiarity with MS Office suite, Salesforce and CANVA.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and social perspectives
  • High sensitivity to reputational risk
  • Conflict resolution and mediation skills.
  • Empathy for both humans and animals.
  • Ability to accept responsibilities and accountabilities and be focused on delivering outcomes to meet RSPCA NSW objectives
  • Basic animal handling skills desirable
