Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Women’s Council was founded and is still led, governed and directed by women from the NPY region. It was created to give a voice to women across 26 desert communities in the cross-border regions of Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Today, we continue to provide progressive, innovative and evidence-based work in service delivery, advocacy and support.
The NPY Women’s Council’s Youth Service works with children and young people (aged 10-25) and their families living in the NPY region, and is integral to the work we do. The Youth Service model is based on four key components: Case Management; Leadership and Education; Youth Diversion and Recreation; and Advocacy.
ABOUT THE TEAM
The NPY Women’s Council Youth Program works with children and young people aged 10-25 and their families. Our service model consists of the following: case management, leadership and education, youth diversion and recreation as well as advocacy and collaboration.
The main activities of the NPYWC Youth Program are to:
- Work with young people and their communities to provide enjoyable, educational recreation activities.
- Provide case management support to young people and their families using a family orientated client centred framework.
- Advocate for better resourcing and support where there are gaps in services and programs for young people, advocate for social change.
- Develop specialised projects to meet the needs of young people across the NPY region.
- Develop local staff to deliver the programs.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Education Project started in January 2020. The primary focus is on supporting NPY Women’s Councils understanding of barriers and enablers to secondary education for young Anangu women aged 12-18 and to support systems change in line with Anangu ideals.
The Project officer will work towards empowering young women from the NPY region to have a voice through holding individual and group consultations, participating in national and regional platforms as well as policy reform.
ABOUT YOU
The ideal candidate will have relevant qualifications in areas such as Education, Youth Work, Social Work and/or experience with project management and advocacy. Exposure to remote indigenous communities will be highly regarded.
You will be passionate about this type of work, with a willingness and capacity to learn the skill sets you don’t yet know. In this role, you will need to have high energy and be committed to working alongside Anangu. You will have values that closely align with our guiding principles, be resilient, driven and strong in relationship building.
You will work within a supportive, trauma informed team in an organisation which provides a comprehensive orientation program. You will receive best practice supervision and professional development that includes vicarious trauma, case management and four-wheel driving training. We also provide critical incident debriefing and a range of counselling services to support you.
In addition to this, we offer above award salary, salary packaging benefits, generous leave entitlements and a retention bonus. We also provide NPY Women’s Council accommodation and use of a company vehicle whilst remote travelling.
