About the Role

As a Project Support Officer, you’ll work closely with the Director of Research and Development to support a variety of research initiatives and stakeholder engagements. You’ll be instrumental in coordinating project tasks, conducting research, managing consultations, and contributing to meaningful project outcomes. This role is ideal for someone who’s detail-oriented, enjoys a mix of administrative and strategic work, and is passionate about making a difference.

A Day in the Life of a Project Support Officer - Key Responsibilities

Project Planning and Monitoring:

  • Assist in planning and developing project plans, including setting milestones and deliverables.
  • Support stakeholder engagement activities, research, and reporting.
  • Organise and coordinate meetings, workshops, and focus groups related to project activities.
  • Track indicators, milestones, and capacity measures to ensure project progression aligns with strategic priorities.

Strategic Project Support:

  • Support the Director in developing and maintaining strategic and operating plans that align with Suicide Prevention Australia’s priorities.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of organisational events and research tasks.
  • Provide written materials and content to support project goals and consultation processes.

Communication and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Assist in building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including members, government agencies, and industry partners.
  • Provide support for stakeholder meetings and ensure clear, consistent communication that aligns with SPA’s mission.
  • Contribute to external and internal communications to engage members and convey project progress.

Administration and Compliance:

  • Maintain accurate records of project activities, research, and compliance documentation.
  • Prepare content and updates for governance reporting and internal meetings.
  • Collaborate with team members and support a positive, inclusive work environment aligned with SPA’s core values.

About You

Education: Undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as social sciences, public health, project management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

  • You have a background in project administration, ideally within the research, health, or NFP sectors.
  • You excel at managing multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and delivering high-quality work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience with funding proposals and grant administration is a plus.

Technical Skills: High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with a working knowledge of CRM systems or project management tools.
