Victoria pledges school co-operation
The Victorian Government has launched its new Victorian Schools Compact initiative in a bid to clarify roles and responsibilities and ‘build a new culture of co-operation in education’.
State Education Minister, Martin Dixon, said that the new initiative would bring together school leaders and government policy makers within the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD).
“Victorian school leaders have more autonomy than any other system in Australia. We want to preserve and extend that by clarifying roles and responsibilities and by making sure my Department is focused on supporting school leaders,” Mr Dixon said.
The announcement of the Compact comes after a major restrucruing of the DEECD, which Mr Dixon says will deliver improved savings, onerous reporting obligations and cut red tape.
