Victoria opens $20 million school for gifted students
The Victorian Government has opened the first school for gifted students in Melbourne’s west.
Professor Suzanne Cory AC, joined by State Minister for Education Martin Dixon, officially opened the Suzanne Cory High School in Werribee.
The $20 million school will provide an ‘academically-focused environment’ for high potential students.
The specialised teaching areas for art, information technology and science are all equipped with the latest technology, the school has a 430-seat auditorium, every student has a laptop and the school has sports facilities, including a gymnasium and outdoor hard court areas.
The centrepiece of the school is its covered outdoor space, which uses the same high-tech material that was used in the 'Water Cube' at the Beijing Olympics.
