Universities boosted by $1.5 billion under Research Block Grants
Ground breaking research in Australia’s universities will be boosted by grants worth $1.5 billion under the Research Blocks Grants allocation for 2011.
Research block grants (RBG) are allocated according to performance based formula and are independent of funding for specific research projects, programs, or fellowships.
The announcement covers 3270 new Australian postgraduate award places worth $201m, up from 3069 last year ($165m), but new international postgraduate research scholarships are steady both in numbers, at 330, and funding, at $20m.
Allocations under joint research engagement, the research infrastructure block grants and the commercialisation training scheme are steady or slightly up this year.
