Tasmanian eSchool to provide 'flexible learning opportunities'
Tasmanian Premier Lara Giddings has announced the launch of the new eSchool initiative. The program, an amalgamation of Distance Education Tasmania and the Online Learning Network, aims to offer a variety of programs to students around Tasmania.
“The Tasmanian eSchool is an exciting opportunity to bring students together from around the state to assist them in accessing the resources they need for their studies. It will help to ensure geographic isolation, or difficult personal circumstances, are not obstacles to securing the education they need." Ms Giddings said.
While eSchool is predominately internet based, it has two physical campuses in Mayfield and Derwent park. Ms Giddings has also expressed her hopes that the initiative will receive a boost with the rolling out of the Federal Government's National Broadband Network.
The program is aimed at students between kindergarten and year 10.
