The Federal Government has announced the opening of the $1.3 million Trade Training Centre (TTC) in Sydney's South, allowing access of around 350 students to vocational training facilities.

Federal Minister for School Education, Peter Garrett, and Member for Werriwa, Laurie Ferguson, officially opened the new centre which was funded by the Federal Government’s $2.5 billion Trade Training Centres in Schools Program.

The centre includes a new industry-standard metals and engineering workshop, featuring computer aided design facilities.

The centre will deliver a range of training in engineering qualifications, including technology, metals, engineering and design and technology.

Trade Training Centres will be aimed at increasing the number of students achieving Year 12 or an equivalent qualification, and help meet skill shortages in trades and emerging industries.

The Australian Government has awarded more than $1.03 billion to fund 288 projects across 900 schools across Australia through the Trade Training Centres in Schools Program.
