The Federal Government has announced almost $10 million in funding for a range of new research projects at Griffith University, including creating a quantum computer capable of solving problems exponentially faster than any classical machine.

While visiting Griffith University's Gold Coast campus, Minister for Science and Research, Senator Chris Evans, said the Federal Government will look to invest $9.4 million in 29 new research initiatives to be allocated through the Australian Research Council (ARC).

"Researchers at Griffith University will use this funding on a broad range of research projects, including one to modify certain compounds to increase their level in human cells and maximise their anti-cancer effect," Senator Evans said.

"These projects will help deliver solutions to national problems and improve the lives of Australians."

The announcement by Senator Evans brings the Federal Government's investment in Griffith University's research efforts to $46 million.
