Funds to teach why we grow
The Federal Government has made a modest investment in the future of Australian farming.
$2 million has been provided for the Agriculture in Education programme, which seeks to help teachers understand the products and processes associated with food and fibre production.
It is designed to ensure that students get a scope of just how important these fields are for the Australian economy.
Education minister Christopher Pyne announced the funding of $2 million over two years this week.
The money will be used for 60 five-minute online teacher support videos and a further 30 curriculum resources to be developed in the first year of the project.
The resources will be made available as part of the National Online Learning Services (formerly known as the National Digital Learning Resources Network).
The films and associated materials are being developed by the Primary Industries Education Foundation and Agrifood Skills Australia.
