Education support bill passes
The Federal Government’s Higher Education Support Amendment (Demand Driven Funding System and Other Measures) Bill has passed through Senate.
The Federal Government has said that the passage of the bill will ensure that public universities will be funded for undergraduate student places based on demand.
“No longer will universities be required to annually negotiate with Canberra over how many undergraduate places to offer in each discipline,” Minister for Tertiary Education, Senator Chris Evans said.
The bill forms a keystone of the Federal Government’s response to the Bradley Review of Higher Education.
The announcement of the bill’s passage comes as extensive reform to the Youth Allowance system has also passed parliament.
