Apprenticeships hike by 15.7%
The National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) has announced the numbers of Australians who have commenced a traineeship or apprenticeship has increased by 15.7 per cent to 314 000 in the 12 months leading to December 2010.
The NCVER compared apprenticeship uptake between the 12 months leading up to December 2009 and then again in the same time frame leading up to 2010 and found the following;
- the number of people commencing in trades occupations increased by 21.9%
- the number of people commencing in non-trades occupations increased by 13.1%.
The NCVER also found that ‘seasonally adjusted data show trades commencements have increased 0.8% between the September quarter 2010 and the December quarter 2010’.
