ALTC rewards early career achievers
The Australian Learning & Teaching Council (ALTC) has announced 22 “Early Career” achievers as part of its 2011 Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.
Chief Executive of the ALTC, Dr Carol Nicoll said that formal recognition by peers and the sector is an important way of encouraging early career teachers to establish high levels of engagement with their students.
In total, 185 individuals and 25 teams will be presented with Citations, worth $10,000 each, at the 2011 Australian Awards for University Teaching ceremony at the Sydney Opera House on 16 August.
The 2011 cohort of recipients represents a range of disciplines including mathematics, health sciences, psychology, media, medicine, engineering and education. The Citations recognise staff working in areas such as the first year experience, the transition of non-traditional students into university and the growing field of education for sustainability.
