The Federal Government has announced $28 million in funding to address the emerging critical skills shortages in the resources, construction, infrastructure and renewable energy sectors.

 

Minister for Skills and Jobs, Senator Chris Evans, today announced successful projects under the $200 million Critical Skills Investment Fund (CSIF), which in partnership with industry, will train new workers and up-skill existing workers to meet demand.

 

“The projects will support training for more than 7500 workers from small, medium and large businesses, including more than 1500 new workers in the critical industry sectors of resources, construction, infrastructure and renewable energy,” Senator Evans said.

 

“Almost half this training will be in regional Australia, including almost 1000 training places in remote locations.”

 

Included are projects to up-skill senior tradespeople for frontline management jobs and specialist roles in mining and civil construction, training for workers in mining and quarrying and training for new and existing workers in rail operations to support resource projects.
